Online Building Inventory
This online building inventory is the result of a 'survey' taken of all the buildings inside the H-1 Overlay district.
Historic resource surveys, such as this one,
involve research and field work that creates a 'catalog' of historic resources.
Inventory surveys contain only publicly available information and are conducted at a variety of levels by government and private agencies.
A historic resource is defined as a district, site, building, or structure that is significant in American history, architecture, archaeology, or culture.
As part of its duties the City and the HPC maintain an online inventory of all the buildings within the H-1 Overlay District.
Winchester's building inventory serves as an important catalog that can be referenced during the Design Review process.
The inventory is designed to capture specific information about each individual site or structure as an aid to understanding each building's individual character. This also strengthens understanding of the district as a whole.
This inventory helps the WHPC, the City, and the interested public in making assessments about buildings' historic character or architectural integrity.
